New Surveys Show Ending D/S Would Impact Students’ Decisions to Study or Remain in the United States
Anticipating the Trump Administration's recent proposal to end the Duration of Status (D/S) policy, NAFSA and the Institute for Progress conducted two surveys of current and prospective international students to gauge the impact that policy changes would have on students' decisions to study or remain in the United States.
The surveys, which were supported by IDP Education, Studyportals, and ApplyBoard, reveal that nearly half of the more than 1,000 current students and postdoc students surveyed would not have enrolled in a U.S. institution in the first place if D/S had been replaced with a fixed period of admission.
NAFSA urges institutions of higher education to submit a comment letter in support of Duration of Status and to include the D/S-related data points in their comment letters.
