International-applicant slump sticks: The Common App reported a 9-percent decrease in international applicants through December 1, in line with trends recorded a month earlier. But the overall number of applicants climbed by 4 percent thanks to strong growth in domestic applicants, who make up a much larger share of the platform’s users. First-generation, rural, and low-income applicants posted particularly strong growth, as did those from underrepresented racial or ethnic minority groups.
